Introduction
Seattle Social Housing Developer (SSHD) is a public development authority that was created through the passage of I-135 in 2023. It is charged with building and acquiring high quality housing that is governed by its residents, permanently public, affordable and secure for people whose income level prices them out of traditional market-rate housing.
Board
SSHD is governed by a 13 member board appointed by the Seattle Renters Commission, community and labor organizations, and the Seattle City Council and Mayor. The majority of the board are renters with lived experience of housing insecurity. Several board members have real estate development experience or nonprofit expertise.
